I’ve been tagged to take part in a meme by Sue (the Mom at Island Cats blog). Wally, Ernie and Zoey are gorgeous little friends of Milo and Alfie and we all enjoying raading their blog ~ so when their Mom Sue asked me to join in this meme I didn’t hesitate!
Sue said:
Either (1) post 7 facts about yourself AND photos OR (2) post 10 facts about yourself with no photos, OR (3) post a childhood picture of yourself.” I’ve chosen to do both (1) and (3).
I’ve decided to do 2 ‘cos I couldn’t find a photo! Here’s the ten facts about me:
- I’ve always been a bit of a dare devil and I have had flying lessons, I’ve parachuted, hot air ballooned, was a member of the university gliding team as an undergraduate, I’ve paracended, climbed mountains, ridden an Ordinary (1895 Penny Farthing bicycle), roller bladed, ice skated, skied and have driven an historic Grand Prix racing car (1956 ex-Cunningham Lister Jaguar) ~ then in 1995 I got primary bone cancer in my leg and am now much more sedantry. But how glad am I that I did all those things first? YAY! I am a cancer survivor (Chondrosarcoma ~ primary bone cancer) ~ although sadly I am currently awaiting surgery for a recurrence so I walk with a stick at the moment.
- I read English and Psychology at the University of Birmingham and graduated with an Honours degree. It is one of my proudest achievements.
- I married P in New York. We flew out to NYC one week before to make the arrangements and preparations. We got married in a beautiful Victorian Church on Fifth Avenue (almost opposite Trump Tower). Our wedding was spectacular: Stretch Limo to the church, photographs taken in Central Park, horse and carriage to reception at The Russian Tea Rooms (before it closed down), evening reception at The Rainbow Room at the Rockerfella Centre ~ after seeing Cats on stage on Broadway (we actually sat on the stage!) Our best friends flew out to join as best man and matron of honour.
- I drive a gorgeous red sport’s car (although it is quite old now) (a bit like me!) LOL!
- I am a published author in my own name, and also a ghost writer: I am currently working on two books for other people (and have several other books waiting to be ghost written).
- I am a keen photographer with no formal training but have published some of my photographs in a book on architecture (written by someone else), and have had my photographs used for websites, cards etc. I have also taken photos at a number of weddings and social events. I just love taking photos!
- I am very intuitive and sometimes in serious situations have know what is happening to my two sons before they phone to tell me.
- I adore my two cats: Milo and Alfie ~ and also all my beloved cats who went to the Bridge before them: Confucius (grey just like Alfie ~ they could be twins), Merak and Khamsin (black panther siblings), Henry (Lilac Point Siamese).
- I love classical piano music but don’t play an instrument (although I’m teaching myself guitar ~ I’m rubbish though!!)
- I am none judgemental and like people who are authentic and proud to be themselves (wealth doesn’t impress me but sometimes people’s achievements to gain wealth fascinate me).

Wow, firstly thanks for tagging my mum. Mum is actualy quite amazed that your mum has so many similar things in her life to our mum. Very interested to read your list. Mum will try to put hers on tomorrow,
Please, mum is not sure of your mum’s name.
Hugs to you both.
GJ xx
Hi GJ, I’ve added my name to the post now ~ silly me, I forgot!
Jan
PS: What’s your Mom’s name?
Thanks for playing along! We are so impressed with all the daredevil things you have done! Our mom has a fear of heights and she sez she’ll never jump out of a plane!
It has been a lot of fun learning about the humans that are owned by our furiends!!
Wally, Ernie & Zoey
I enjoyed it! Thanks!
We love getting to know the humans. I almost wish my human had been tagged, but she is boring…
I’m tagging her right now ~ just so we can prove she is NOT boring!
Jan,
Fantastic response. I’m sure you’re not “rubbish” at guitar. None of us are, we just see that there’s room for improvement. What is paracending? (I doubt I’m adventurous enough to try it, but I’d like to know what it is.)
Shady
aka: “The Catless Contributor”.
Hi Shady,
Paracending: Is parachuting after being towed into air: a sport in which somebody wearing an open parachute is towed along by a speedboat or land vehicle, rises into the air, and descends independently using the parachute.
I used to do by being towed by a boat ~ I would stand on the jetty wearing the open parachute and be towed into the air. The grim bit was landing in the sea afterwards as I’n not a keen swimmer!
That’s me out for the moment, then. (Sort of re-learning to swim after eight years.) Heights aren’t my favourite things, either.
We are enjoying reading about the different mums. Wow! Hasn’t your mum done a lot of things. She is a real daredevil. We hope her surgery goes well.
Thanks boys!
Your mom is soooo cool! Our mom will work on her list later. Thanks for tagging her, she needs something fun to do.
Love,
Harry
We’ll all look forward to reading it Harry!
Oi, Milo! Alfie! Wanna be musketeers?
We sure do! We’re hot pawing it over to your bloggie straight away!
Oh wow! You’re a very accomplished cat mom! We think it’s furry pawsome that were such a dare devil and adrineline junkie! Our mom is a huge scaredy cat who won’t step foot in a plane!
Your wedding sounds like a fairy tale!
We are purring for you with your recurrence and purray that all goes well with the surgery!
Our mom posted her on her blog, she can’t remember if she told you or not, but here is the link:
http://creeklife.wordpress.com/2009/07/22/whos-that-girl/
I’m going over to read it straight away!
What a fascinating life!! It was a lot of fun getting to know more about you. My Mom is posting her meme tomorrow!
We will look out for it!
How great to learn about you! I hope your cancer is treated successfully and you have no more issues. I didn’t know you were an author, although you write beautifully as a cat and your photos of the boys are always cool!
Meg
Thanks!
Wow! Your mom has had quite an amazing night!
She did too! But she didn’t do it all last night!
This was amazing to read. I love learning about all the mom’s behind the cats…maybe we can even get a dad or 2. Mom will work on posting hers tomorrow.
What a daredevil you are and we are purring really really hard that you will be ok with your upcoming surgery.
Thanks ~ it is fixable. They curretage the bone and replace it with a bit of my hip. Great fun (not!). I’m not too worried I just want it all over.
WHOA! Thanks for sharing those things about yourself! It’s so cool that you have done all of those amazing things already. I never knew you were a published author. What sort of books do you write? My Mommie is an avid reader.
Goodness, we think that’s the most interesting mom facts we’ve read so far – you’ve done quite a bit and you’re still going strong! Sorry to hear about the leg cancer but it sounds like even that’s not getting you down and can be taken care of with some fuss and bother. We’ll be purring for you too (between your leg and dad’s eyes, you’re both a bit of a mess, eh?
).
We’d be interested too in what types of books you write, our Mommy is always reading on her Kindle thingie.
Purrs and hugs,
The Kitty Krew
What interesting things you’ve done, Jan! i’m especially in awe of your dare devil activities! I really hope that your forthcoming surgery goes well and that that is the end of it for old nasty Mr C! oh, and thanks for tagging me…better get to it soon or i’ll never get around to it.
We did it- Harry
Jan, you are indeed my heroine, for many reasons — your fearlessness, and ability to carry on through obvious hardships — and your lust for life with all your daredevil activities and your obvious intelligence and perserverance. Also, I think you have your priorities straight and know that love is the most important thing of all!
I’m so sorry to learn that you’ve had a recurrence of your cancer. I’m sure you’ll beat this again with all of the same strength of mind that you beat it before.
I took a break this weekend so didn’t get to read this until now – I’m very happy to learn more about you! I am definitely NOT a daredevil (except inadvertently!) so am very impressed. And I’m sending you many good thoughts with the cancer recurrence – wishing you all the best with the surgery.
Love and hugs -
Katie
P.S. Would love to see a photo of your car!
Wow oh wow you have accomplished a lot! Boy that makes me feel, well, unaccomplished. It is so cool that you have done all that daredevil stuff (I would love to try something like that some day) and that you have books published (I have a great idea but never get around to writing it down). And the cats and I are sending you good postive energy thoughts and hope your surgery goes well. If you beat it once you should be able to do so again – and I am sure there is just a ton of good enersy headed your way from everyone who follows Milo and Alfie!
