Hi Efurrybuddy,
First of all Mom wants to tell yoo all THANK YOU for the get well wishes when she had flu; she is feeling much better now!

I bet there isn’t one cat or kitten owt there that hasn’t used their design skills to create Shabby Chic in their own home! So get yoor mom or dad to grab the camera and showcase yoor skills TODAY!
Shabby Chic is a form of interior design where furniture and furnishings are deliberately distressed to achieve the appearance of an antique. At the same time, a soft, minimalistic, and feminine feel is emphasized to differentiate it from regular vintage decor; hence the “chic” in the name.
The style started in the UK and evokes the type of decoration found in large country houses where there are worn and faded old chintz sofas and curtains, old or chipped paintwork and unassuming ‘good’ taste. The end result of Shabby Chic is to achieve an elegant overall effect.
Make sure yoo tell me in the comments if yoo’ve posted Shabby Chic pics, and I’ll come and inspect them. There are no prizes but yoo do get the satisfaction of knowing yoor skills are greatly appresheated!
My HOT Tips:
Your furniture doesn’t need to be real antique, yoo can get the look quite easily. Cupboards and tables that have been painted white or pastel colors, can be lightly scraitched to give a distressed look to the furniture . (Even non-painted furniture can be scraitched to give worn appearance! It’s good for claw sharpening too ~ so it’s a dubble whammy!)
Of course I can’t take all the credit for my skills ‘cos I’ve had a good teacher! Milo re-styled the paintwork on the wainscoting when he was just a pip-squeak tiny kitten ~ showing immense SKILL and FLAIR at a very tender age:

He taught me everyfin’ I know! Fanks Milo.
Sumtimes beans are reluctant to become stylish and they become OBSESSIVE abowt “touching up” yoor Shabby Chic designs ~ they made need help to overcome this pointless habit:

Milo said he got quite worried abowt Dad at one stage:

But he needn’t have worried, help was at hand ~ there are some good rehabilitation centres abowt. Here’s dad after successful THERAPY ~ he’s now FULLY EMBRACED the Shabby Chic style (well OK, he still moans a lot bit but nowhere near as much as he used too!)

Milo trained himself from a very young age by scratching at basket-ware before moving onto wooden furniture:

He was very dedicated and started applying nose-marks to windows when he was teeny too ~ here he is resting up after a thorough application:

Following in the pawsteps of my brofur, I started early too! I’d only been in my forever home a few days when Milo commenced my education:
Here is a pic of Milo demonstrating how to scraitch paintwerk.
Milo: “Yoo just lift yoor paw and scraitch … OK?”

When I was little, Milo even helped me clean debris off my paws afta I’d been re-styling the paintwerk. It hurt a bit … but he said there was no gain wiv owt pain! He’s a good brofur.

I still enjoy the Shabby Chic style and recently Shabby Chic’d the back of our leather settee:

It’s impawtant to take a rest between applications:

Don’t forget to accessorize using snagged cushions and throws to decorate yoor Shabby Chic home:

And give wallpaper and picture frames the Shabby Chic once over if yoo have time:
Milo and I still love to do window treatments; there’s nuffin more stylishly Shabby Chic than snotty nose smudges or paw marks on a window!

And flat-screen TVs are just calling owt for stylish paw marks! (hold back on scraitiching flat screen TVs though, beans can be a bit hyper-sensitive abowt this design feature ~ it’s a bit like MARMITE, they either LOVE it or HATE it!) (Sum fings are beyond the help of THERAPY!)

And chewed plants and nibbled flowers are another accessory that can add elegance to your decor!

Bomit stains are an easy cheap way to Shabby Chic fitted carpets …
But do try to discourage yoor beans from pointlessly wasting HOURS and HOURS of their time, endeavouring to remove bomit stains. It frustrates them and they say norty werds (WARNING: they made need EXTRA therapy to cure them of their addiction of trying to remove stains):

Don’t forget, yoo can add a little extra sumfin to rugs by fraying and fringing the edges ~ be sure to take a well earned rest during the process though, as it is tiring werk on a BIG rug:
As you can see, the possibilities are neber ending when it comes to decorating yoor home in the Shabby Chic style ! And wot’s more, this is a design for budget conscious beans who want a perfectly lovely and charming home for their cats. They will need to factor in the expense of any THERAPY they need though ~ ‘cos Shabby Chic can take sum getting used too!

Hi there Milo and Alfie, you are truly inspiring decorators…so we are not at all surprised that you started at a young age to learn your craft!
Our post will got up at 12:01AM Eastern time in the US…but I’m afraid mom and dad tried to help us with the Shabby Chic theme and they took things too far!
Purrs,
Cory and Ellie
You two boys are masters at shabby chic designing! Our post will go up at 12:01AM Pacific time in the US and we’ll show how we’ve added some shabby chicness to our house!
We will have a post up on Monday for Shabby Chic.
Wow! I’m impressed at your shabby chic ideas. We’ve only antiqued a few chairs.
Our post will be up Monday, but I can see I still has a lot of work to do before our home achieves the correct shabby chic style and I am afraid Mommy will need tons of therapy.
Mommy says your poor Daddy seemed to get a work out cleaning up after you. ~Socks
Thanks so much for your excellent Shabby Chic tutorial, Alfie! You are such a master at this type of design. You and Milo do standout work in this area.
You two inspire us all! Felix is showing off his special Futon Faux Finish today…he’s quite proud of it.
We learned SO much from your blog today! We hope you make Shabby Chic day an annual event, because we know we can do MUCH more designing by this time next year.
We’re glad your mom is feeling better.
You two are so good at shabby chic. Great decorating job, guys. We were planning to participate but Jan hasn’t had a chance to take photos for us so we’ll just have to read other decorating tips.
Wow! I have a lot to learn from the two of you. My mom is dealing with the bomit stains a lot recently. She said she is about ready to just give up!
Fantastic post and tips – right from kittenhood. We have made our own post in honour!
It’s beautiful work boys!! I played too!
Great Jobs, Milo : ) Proud of you…Very Creative : )
xoxo
Wow – we have a lot of work to do to get this place up to scratch!
Ruby and Oliver
We love your shabby chic designs! We have posted ours too, so come on over and see our work at Lisa Lisa and the Cat Jam (http://lisa63artist.blogspot.com/).

Milo, I have to back to you because This is AWESOME !!!!
I visited so many blogs of our friends who participated with you and all are so FUNNY !!!! Me and my mom just laugh and laugh…Thank you so much to do this !
xoxo
Thanks for explaining the fine tips of how to get that shabby chic look, Alfie! We learned a thing or two! Now we’re gonna go practice what we learned!!
Oh yeah…we got our Shabby Chic post up too!
We know you two are the masters! We loved seeing the beginnings of your decorating days. You two little ones were very dedicated (and adorable!)!!
We are speechless! Both of you started so young and your work is inspiring. Miles and I will get to work on this right away — and we only thought the carpet needed shredding.
Excellent work boys – after a while you realize your work is an ongoing process with the beans always wreaking the fine skills and craftcatship
Have a bonkful day
Wow. We’re beyond impressed! You both were so good, at such a young age! And we totally forgot the smudges on windows (and on our patio door) — Derry likes to smoosh bugs against the glass and lick up the bug guts…makes for a great shabby chic window feature.
The only thing I can say is impressive, darn impressive!!!
Good thing cats are so cute or they would never get away with this stuff! My dad brought in some of the strays that came to his house and never declawed any of them which was nice but he never spayed or neutered any either which was not good. His house was very smelly.
What an excellent artikle.
I now feel inspired should you have further Shabby Chic days.
I would so love to have a Shabby Chic house.
Now mine eyes jus wandered up to Fuzzy Tales comment about bug stains… now iffen I’d known those were decor… and iffen big brown roach stains count… then I could haf participated today.
What about lizard tails?
The broke off part when it gits away from you… you know…? Is that decor.
I might need another lesson, please.
Love & Purrs,
KC
Wow, you boys are dedicated!!! Do your parents know how much it would cost if Colin Cowie came to your house and styled it like that? …but they get it for free with you – LOL!!!
We’ve joined in the shabby chic fun today too
You guys are the absolutely word on Shabby Chic! I apologize that we did not partake because Mommy completely forgot, and then had no pictures to show today.
We’re glad your Mommy’s feeling better now, to enjoy this marvelous day with you.
Your tips are suPURRlative! It’s obvious you’ve had much ‘paws on’ experience!
You two are just the best at shabby chic decorating and can learn a lot from all these tips. Thank you for organising this fun day. I have done shaby chic on my blog today.. Hugs GJ x
Goodness, you two are the best at redecorating. Our Mom used to try to clean up after us but sometimes it is a little overwhelming for her. But we truly like all your decorating ideas. We have written them down although we do pretty well ourselves.
We do have a post today about our decorations. This was such a good idea to do. Thanks.
This was so totally purrfect, funny and awesome, top to bottom… great photos and I am still laughing (a good belly laugh) having read it all! Great writing, Mum.

We loved this post, and have enjoyed reading everybuddy elses Shabby chic posts. I have been a good girl in the new house and not scratched anything or vomited on the rugs. Mum is just waiting though, she knows it won’t be long til I put my touch on the furnitures.

Our Kittycat brofurs and sisfurs sure did enjoy reading this, they have some new pointers to try.
Sadly, our trips into the house are very rare, but we do enjoy our patio and picnic table.
Happy Tuesday!
~ Bob and Patrick
Oh no! We forgot ta post our Shabby Chic pictures yesserday! Well, we sure liked yours. And yours were better than ours!
Mrs H would like it to be known that she is relieved that its not just us who vomit on the carpet – we have wood and tile flooring mainly downstairs but we still manage to do it on the rugs! Lovely post, we really enjoyed it and the picture. Love Helen, Darcy and Bingley xx
